A visit from my mom and dad!

My wonderful mom and dad came out to help us for our move. They stayed 2 weeks with us! We had a blast, and I miss them already.

The kids got in some quality torture time from Grandpa.

And snuggle time too.

And then they worked harder than any 70+ person should. They helped me pack and clean. A LOT.

After we got moved out and in enough to function, I took them to see some of Richmond.

The museum of the Confederacy-

My favorite exhibit. It is a bullet rosette. Made when a confederate and a union bullet collided. In my Dad's words, "I'll bet they were happy the bullet didn't end up in them."

And all sorts of jewelry and "art" made from hair. Human hair. Eck.

The White House of the Confederacy

50% of the artifacts in the building were originals. Including Jefferson Davis's gloves, bed, his kids' toys in the toy room, the mirrors and decorations. The rest were exact replicas to the best of their knowledge. It was a 45 minute tour, and my kids did AWESOME. And they didn't break a thing.
It was a fascinating piece of Richmond History.

I took them to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  I know that there are probably more amazing gardens in the world, but this is the best one I have seen...
Unfortunately, we got rained on pretty good. (I think it rain 12 of the 14 days my parents were with us) We took shelter in the rose garden, while the boys went nuts in the rain.

The Butterfly house was pretty cool. Kids loved it.

Sylas howled as we left because a butterfly didn't land on his head.

Virginia State Capitol Building.
This was a cool place. It was built in 1788 and was designed by Thomas Jefferson.

George Washington

This was a touching sculpture. It depicts brothers supporting opposing ends of the civil war embracing at the end of it.

Also- Elevator doors are evil. Sylas had his fingers up against the doors as they opened, and it sucked his fingers into where the doors retract. Doesn't this picture hurt your heart?

And we went out to eat at Awful Arthurs. Scallops- Yum!

I am so glad my parents came to help and share these last two weeks with us. I love them so much!!!
