Outer Banks- Day 3

Today we visited the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
We got to stand in the actual place where the first flight was taken.

"Isn't it astonishing that all of these secrets have been preserved for so many years just so we could discover them!!"Orville Wright  June 7, 1903  Lohn and I really like this quote. I have to admit that I was a little emotional after reading this. I am so grateful for these men, for their obsessive/compulsive/stick-to-it-iveness/determination to accomplish what most people thought was crazy. Thank-you dear crazy smart Wright brothers!

They let us fly kites afterwards. They are the best kites ever. And they are made out of garbage bags and dowels. They gave us the instructions to make our own.

Then we made the trip to the dunes just a few miles down the road. Amongst the dunes there are some tiny ponds, and in each of those ponds my kids found...
Tad poles! or as Sylas says, tad-tads.
Aunt Heidi with Caleb and Haley

This was part of our lunch.
Cousin Caleb. I ate one too. Not my favorite, but it didn't make me gag, so that's good.

The men went fishing again, so when they got back, the women went to the local lighthouse.

At the top you look one way and see the sound side (sound side= non- ocean side. Yes, I am sure you knew that, but I didn't.)
And at the other side of the lighthouse you see the ocean side.
Climbing up to the tip top of the lighthouse. I may or may not almost had a panic attack due to the heights.
The sunset. It is so beautiful here.

Not shown- Hours spent on the beach and the delicious fudge we ate for treat. Also not shown, me trying to help Ander in the ocean, and getting hammered by a extremely large wave, and being washed up on the beach like a drowned rat with my swimsuit top down around my stomach. Lovely.
