9 years ago today I was 7 months pregnant and sleeping in with my hubby, when my mom calls and rouses us from bed. She tells us to turn on our television, because there has been an attack on the twin towers and they suspect terrorists. Lohn and I did as she said and saw both of the standing towers engulfed in flames. We watched horrified as one tower collapsed, soon followed by the other. And then we heard the news that there were two more hijacked airplanes in the air. I turned to Lohn and yelled, "But there are people on those planes!" He just looked at me grimly and said, "Yep." I was unable to watch anymore and ran upstairs and sobbed. I had to get ready for work, and it was so hard. Lohn and I rode the bus to USU campus where he was still working on his undergrad, and I had a job. I remember how everyone on the bus was silent, no one was talking. The bus driver had the radio turned and we all listened to the tragedy.
I am still sad when I think of that day. But in the aftermath, I was amazed at the outpouring of faith and prayer groups that were organized all over the country. I remember thinking it was wonderful and hoping it would last. I remember thinking it made our country more united and stronger. What do you remember from that day?
God bless America!
